Job description

The Test and Measuring Equipment Controller is responsible for the effective management, control and availability of Test and Measuring Equipment (TME) within the organisation.

Responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Maintaining a database of TME for RAF Lossiemouth and other Units that fall under the RAF Lossiemouth Parenting Agreement.
  • Monitor equipment holdings and identify shortages, surpluses, obsolescence and emerging capability risks.
  • Ensure unserviceable, suspect or damaged equipment is appropriately identified, segregated and controlled to prevent inadvertent use.
  • Contribute to investigations into damaged, lost, incorrectly used or otherwise compromised test equipment.
  • Raise and support the management of safety occurrences, equipment discrepancies and non-conformities where appropriate.
  • Compiling and distributing monthly Calibration Call Forwards Notifications and Routine Maintenance (RM) Notifications for items of test equipment.
  • Updating records with condition, calibration dates, RM dates, modifications and any other detail changes.
  • Inspection of equipment upon receipt to carry out calibration date checks and comprising item checks.
  • Support the introduction, codification and onboarding of new items of test equipment into the equipment management and calibration process.
  • Supporting the Squadrons Unit Movements Officers by overseeing and coordinating test equipment required for out of area purposes.
  • Maintaining a close liaison with the TMEC Logistician for the receipt, despatch and progression of logistical transactions pertaining to items of test equipment.
  • Working together with external agencies and industry partners to arrange onsite / offsite calibrations and repairs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes, documentation and methods of working to enhance efficiency, assurance and service delivery.

NOTE: The role of the TME Controller is not exclusively administrative in nature. While the position includes a significant administrative element, it also requires the individual to undertake practical activities, including the inspection and checking of test and measuring equipment, identification of equipment condition and serviceability, and associated manual handling activities. These duties are integral to the effective management and control of test equipment and should therefore be recognised as part of the role’s overall responsibilities.

Further information:

The Civil Service embraces diversity and promotes equal opportunities. As such, we run a Disability Confident Scheme (DCS) for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.

As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came into effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points-based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical. This role does not meet that category, and we will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system.

Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

The Ministry of Defence requires all candidates who are successful at interview to declare any outside interests. These declarations will be discussed with successful candidates following the interview process and before a formal offer of employment is made, as some outside interests may not be compatible with MOD civilian roles. This will not, in the majority of cases, prevent employment in MOD, but it is a measure that must be taken to ensure that appropriate mitigations can be put in place to manage any potential, perceived or actual conflicts of interest from the first day of employment.

The Ministry of Defence adopts a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviours, which includes bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, and victimisation. You will not be eligible and will not be considered for this post if you have been dismissed from a role for such unacceptable behaviours within the last five years. This will also apply if you resign or otherwise leave a role but, because of an adverse decision, would have been dismissed for gross misconduct had you continued in that employment. Pre-employment checks will be carried out.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
