Job summary

There is one vacancy available, offered either as a permanent role or as a 24-month secondment opportunity for applicants from a Police Force.

Although we are Public Servants, we are accredited by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in CSC’s recruitment principles.

Due to our status as Public Servants, we are not eligible to participate in the Civil Service transfer process. Therefore, while successful candidates can transfer in on their existing terms and conditions, any subsequent transfer out of the College to the Civil Service will follow the standard Cabinet Office policy and new starter/modernised terms will apply.

  • Some of your responsibilities will include:
  • ​​Lead the design, development and delivery of a complex portfolio of Technical Skills Learning events within a safe learning environment, across ranks and roles, ensuring learning content meets current legislation and guidance​
  • ​​Lead, define and shape the strategic direction and priorities of the respective Technical Skills Learning Team. Lead change and continuous improvement in the quality of service and products developed, delivered and embedded in national learning programmes.​
  • ​​Lead the engagement with frontline policing at all levels to share College Technical Skills Learning products and promote the required standard. Oversee quality assurance processes of licenced Technical Skills Learning products and manage the national rollout of new programmes, providing the necessary support to ensure standards are met.​
  • To be successful in this role you’ll need:
  • ​​Degree or equivalent level 6 in a relevant subject (Learning, Education, Leadership, Policing) and/or extensive equivalent experience.​
  • Meet the Police Sector Standard for the Training of Trainers: Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS Level 4) or NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development or equivalent.
  • Experienced and current Assessor competent to the Police Sector Standard for the Training of Assessors; developing to gain competence as Internal Verifier​

Job description

​​Set the strategic direction and priorities for the provision of national law enforcement Technical Skills Learning by building and maintaining effective relationships internally and externally at all levels of law enforcement and multi-agency working. Using best evidence design, develop and deliver Technical Skills Learning interventions ensuring best practise, competence and Professional Standards, whilst leading a complex and diverse team. Work collaboratively with others to diagnose scope, cost and implement effective, efficient and innovative learning solutions that make a positive impact on policing and other agencies. Accountable for a large portfolio of Technical Skills Learning interventions across law enforcement agencies ensuring accreditation processes, needs analysis, programme design, delivery, evaluations and licensing implementation and delivery are all delivered to agreed specifications.​

There is one vacancy available, offered either as a permanent role or as a 24-month secondment opportunity. For those applying for secondment, this is open to:

  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Chief Inspector or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.

Please note, without a secondment approval form your application will not progress beyond sift, even if you are successful.
