Job description

Railway Safety Directorate ensures duty-holders in the railway industry manage health and safety risks effectively and comply with their statutory duties. The Chief Inspector's Office (CIO) is a newly established function within the Railway Safety Directorate (RSD). The CIO provides governance, planning, performance, risk, assurance and strategic support to help the directorate deliver its objectives effectively and consistently.

The Risk & Assurance Lead will help establish a consistent and effective approach to risk, assurance, compliance and performance reporting across the Railway Safety Directorate. Working closely with colleagues across the directorate, the postholder will develop the processes, reporting arrangements and practical tools that help managers understand key risks, monitor performance and provide confidence that important obligations are being met.

By improving visibility of risks, assurance activities and organisational performance, the role will help ensure that resources are focused on the right priorities and that emerging issues are identified early.
