If so, come and join us as an Operational Management Information Developer within the Working Age Services Directorate in the Digital Transformation Group.

The Working Age Data and Performance Team sits at the heart of DWP's Digital Transformation Group, providing the analysis, performance insight and resource planning that help drive continuous improvement across Working Age services.

Working with Operations, Digital teams and senior stakeholders, including Directors and Ministers, you will use data and insight to understand performance, identify opportunities for improvement and support evidence based decision making. You'll contribute to the development of performance measures and process indicators, test hypotheses, evaluate outcomes and help shape data driven initiatives that improve services for our customers.

Job description

  • Produce insightful management information, analysis and visualisations using Power BI or similar tools to support operational and strategic decision making.
  • Develop robust analytical products using SQL or similar programming languages, ensuring outputs are accurate, reproducible and quality assured.
  • Combine and interrogate data from multiple sources to generate meaningful insights, identify trends and inform business improvements.
  • Lead analytical and performance improvement projects, delivering outcomes at pace and managing competing priorities effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and operational performance across Universal Credit and Labour Market services.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders, to influence decisions and deliver complex outcomes.
  • Present complex data and technical findings in a clear and engaging way for non-technical audiences.
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative working environment while contributing to team objectives, efficiencies and continuous improvement.

Selection process

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.

Stage 1: Application

Your application will consist of five parts:

1. A Personal Details application form.

2. Civil Service Numerical Test

After submission of the first stage of your application you will be invited to complete the Civil Service Numerical Test. If you successfully pass the test, you will be invited to complete the final stages of the application.

Please complete the online test as soon as possible (within 24-48 hours is recommended). The closing date for a fully completed application is 22/09/2026 at 23:55hrs. Please allow sufficient time to complete the online test and your full written application before the deadline. If you fail to complete the online test and full written application before the deadline your application will be withdrawn. Guidance for the test will be available when you are invited to take the test. The test is administered online and accessed via the CS Jobs website.

Following successful completion of the test, you will then be asked to complete:

3. Employment history - this should contain your work experience and any skills, qualifications and accomplishments relevant to the jobs you have completed.

4. Personal statement - up to 1000 words. This statement should be used to provide examples of how you meet the essential criteria below:

  • Strong numerical and analytical ability that is sufficient to quickly assimilate, manipulate, examine and analyse large volumes of complex operational data.
  • Strong and effective leadership experience, demonstrating integrity and the ability to collaborate with others. Able to communicate with clarity, conviction and enthusiasm with colleagues and stakeholders at various levels, using data to influence, advise, contribute and challenge where necessary to drive positive outcomes.
  • Ability to lead change and service improvement in large, complex environments, using a proactive and inquisitive approach to problem solving. Experience of taking ownership of projects from concept through to delivery and continuous improvement, while engaging and influencing others to support organisational objectives.
  • Strong decision-making abilities; ability to interpret large volumes of complex data sets; an eye for detail showing confidence when putting forward own views and using sound judgment to provide recommendations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and explain complex points clearly; resilient in the face of challenge. Confident to present findings and recommendations to senior managers.

5. Technical statement (up to 250 words). The following statement is aligned to the required technical skill of Technical Breadth. This statement should be used to provide example(s) of how you meet the criterion below:

  • Working experience of SQL, or another data manipulation language, to produce accurate, reproducible analytical outputs, including use of version control such as Git. Experience using Power BI, or a similar visualisation tool, to report data and present clear recommendations to stakeholders

The sift panel will use the information in your employment history, personal statement, and technical statement to assess your experience, skills and knowledge.

An initial sift will be conducted using the technical statement. Candidates who pass the initial sift will be progressed to a full sift.

If you do progress to a full sift, you will be provided with one combined overall assessment score for both your employment history and Personal Statement.

Stage 2: Technical Interview

Candidates who are successful at sift will be invited to Interview 1. Ahead of the interview, you will be sent a technical exercise scenario, which will be used for the interview questions. The exercise will focus on the technical elements listed in the essential criteria for this advert.

Candidates must not use AI or generative tools when completing the exercise.

Stage 3: Experience Interview

If you’re successful at the stage 2, you’ll be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. During the interview, you’ll be assessed against the experience criteria listed under both the essential criteria and technical skill.

Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening, subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD).
