Job description

Would you like to play a key role in supporting one of the Ministry of Defence's most important and high-profile locations?

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is responsible for managing and maintaining the Defence estate, enabling military personnel and Defence civilians to live, work, train and deploy. We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused Facilities Manager to join our South East Region and Private Finance Initiatives team, supporting the Ministry of Defence Main Building in Central London.

This is a challenging and rewarding role where you will oversee the delivery of hard and soft facilities management services, provide assurance of contractual performance, engage with senior stakeholders and support the delivery of infrastructure projects within a complex operational environment. The role requires strong stakeholder management skills, sound judgement and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-profile setting.

This is a full-time position (37 hours per week). The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a visible on-site presence during normal business hours, engaging directly with customers, contractors and stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and operational assurance. This role is not suitable for remote working.

This role requires Developed Vetting (DV) Security Clearance.

This vacancy is open to sole UK Nationals only. Due to the security requirements associated with this role, applicants must meet nationality and DV clearance requirements and keep eligibility throughout employment.

As a Facilities Manager you will:

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of hard and soft facilities management services through the MOD Main Building PFI contract.
  • Monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations and key performance indicators.
  • Manage service delivery risks and resolve issues to minimise impact on customers and operational outputs.
  • Conduct assurance activities, compliance checks and service reviews to ensure statutory and contractual requirements are met.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, industry partners, contractors and senior MOD stakeholders.
  • Provide estate and facilities management advice to support operational and business outcomes.
  • Support the planning and delivery of infrastructure improvement projects, contract change, and customer-funded works.
  • Validate service performance and authorise contractual payments following audit and assurance checks.
  • Analyse management data and provide reports on service performance, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with commercial, finance and technical teams to ensure contractual compliance and value for money.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service delivery, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Represent DIO as a professional and visible ambassador within a high-profile Government environment.

For help and support with your application check out our

Civil Service Careers Homepage and the How to apply section

The Civil Service embraces diversity and promotes equal opportunities. As such, we run a Disability Confident Scheme (DCS) for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.

As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came into effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points-based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical. This role does not meet that category, and we will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore NOT open to applications from those who will require sponsorship under the points-based system.

Should you apply for this role and be found to require sponsorship, your application will be rejected and any provisional offer of employment withdrawn.

The Ministry of Defence requires all candidates who are successful at interview to declare any outside interests. These declarations will be discussed with successful candidates following the interview process and before a formal offer of employment is made, as some outside interests may not be compatible with MOD civilian roles. This will not, in the majority of cases, prevent employment in MOD, but it is a measure that must be taken to ensure that appropriate mitigations can be put in place to manage any potential, perceived or actual conflicts of interest from the first day of employment.

The Ministry of Defence adopts a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviours, which includes bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, discrimination, and victimisation. You will not be eligible and will not be considered for this post if you have been dismissed from a role for such unacceptable behaviours within the last five years. This will also apply if you resign or otherwise leave a role but, because of an adverse decision, would have been dismissed for gross misconduct had you continued in that employment. Pre-employment checks will be carried out.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
