Construction Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Advisor

As Construction Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Adviser for our Metal Mines programmes, you will use your construction safety expertise to make a visible difference on pollution remediation and environmental improvement projects at abandoned mine sites across Wales and England. The work includes surface-water and spoil-heap management, mine-water treatment and innovative remediation technologies, helping the Mining Remediation Authority and its clients deliver safer, well-managed projects in complex environments.

This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise with constructive influence. You will build trusted relationships with project teams, contractors, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and an extensive supply chain, providing practical advice from design through to delivery. The role offers autonomy, regular contact with meaningful site-based work, and the support of an experienced central team.

Candidates who enjoy solving problems collaboratively, influencing decisions and helping people turn technical requirements into practical, safer ways of working may find this a rewarding role. You do not need metal mining experience, and transferable experience from other complex construction environments is welcomed.

In this role you will:

• Act as the dedicated Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment Adviser for the Metal Mines programmes, supporting projects across Wales and England.
• Support the Mining Remediation Authority and its clients to meet their duties under CDM 2015, including the Principal Designer role.
• Provide practical health, safety, wellbeing and environmental advice at design reviews, pre-start meetings and progress meetings.
• Review project plans and risk controls, and carry out site visits, inspections and audits.
• Work with project teams, contractors, the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and the supply chain to identify risks early and solve problems collaboratively.
• Challenge constructively where standards fall short and work with teams to put things right.
• Support incident investigations and complete RIDDOR reports where required.
• Use learning from projects and incidents to improve HSW policies, procedures and practice.
• Influence behaviour and decisions on live projects, embedding wellbeing alongside safety and compliance.
• Stay connected to the work through regular visits to rural and remote sites, typically up to eight visits a month, with some planned overnight stays.
• Attend the Mansfield head office approximately once a month as part of hybrid working arrangements.
