Job summary

CPS Thames & Chiltern are delighted to advertise a Casework Admin Manager position.

As a Casework Admin Manager for Thames and Chiltern, you need to be self-motivated and organised to manage the daily workflow on the Operational Team. You work collaboratively with other managers to ensure that tasks are completed as per our Standard Operating Procedures to meet the high-quality casework standards. You also contribute to the delivery of maintaining professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders and have line management responsibilities of Casework Assistants.

Regular office attendance is a fundamental aspect of this role, as it enables you to offer direct, on-site support to your team. Therefore, is an expectation as part of the role.

The work is varied and fast paced, offering the opportunity to work across multiple work streams.

The Crown Prosecution Service is based in England and Wales. If you’re applying for this role and live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you must let us know when accepting this offer as you need permission to work from your home address if hybrid working is part of your role. There’s no guarantee that we will grant this approval.

You must be aged 18 before starting in this role. The start date is expected to be 8-12 weeks after the application deadline.

You must complete and pass your Civil Service tests by 27 August 2026 to be able to complete an application for this role.

As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.

Job description

Your roles and responsibilities:

  • Line Manage Casework Assistants
  • Allocate administrative duties to the team taking into account the priority of work and the deployment or availability of resources.
  • Monitor compliance with systems and processes to ensure that casework and administrative functions are delivered efficiently and effectively by Casework Assistants
  • Ensure Performance and Development Review appraisals and Probation reports for Casework Assistants are completed within designated timeframes, in accordance with the Personnel Management Manual.
  • Quality Assurance monitoring for the Case Management System (CMS), dealing promptly with any issues arising from these reviews and ensuring cases progress through to finalisation.
  • Ensure the effective management of the Unit’s Custody Time Limits (CTL) system.
  • In partnership with the Paralegal Business Manager (PBM) and Unit Head/District Crown Prosecutor analyse performance data to ensure effective case progression.
  • To use the CPS Case Management System and other IT tools to communicate and conduct CPS business.
  • To deal with general correspondence as well as more complex enquires.
  • Represent the CPS effectively to outside agencies and the public.

Assessment

We ask you to complete an assessment as part of the recruitment process for this role. We will provide details immediately before your interview.

Behaviours

The panel has the right to assess the lead behaviour ‘Leadership’ first. If the standard on this behaviour isn’t met, the other behaviours won’t be considered and your application won’t progress. The panel also has the right to raise the minimum standard pass mark. The panel may also refer to the lead behaviour at the interview stage to determine merit order.

Interview/Assessment

We use behaviours to help us understand your experience, to see if you're a good fit for the role. You are assessed against EO in the Civil Service success profiles behaviours framework. We are assessing 4 behaviours at interview / assessment stage:

CV

You’re not required to upload your CV. However, when submitting your application there is a ‘CV section’. You are required to provide information about your employment and/or academic history for the past three years. The CV section will be used as supporting evidence, it won’t be assessed.

Strengths

Strengths are tested at interview stage - the strengths tested are not shared before the interview.

Online tests

Other

This is a full-time post. We do consider requests for flexible, part-time working and job share, always considering the operational needs of the department.

Clearance

If successful, you are required to secure a Disclosure and Barring Service check, for which you must have a current valid UK address.

If successfully appointed, we ask you to complete a character enquiry form, and nationality and immigration questionnaire

If you're a Crown Prosecution Service member of staff, you won’t need to do a Disclosure and Barring Service check as you already hold this clearance.

The job you’re applying for is covered by Article 3(a) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, consequently Section 4(2) of that Act doesn’t apply. You’re required to disclose all previous convictions and cautions including spent convictions. Failing to make a full declaration will result in withdrawing your offer of employment if our checks reveal convictions that haven’t been disclosed.

Reserve list

If you're recommended by the selection panel but not appointed to the current vacancy, you’re put on a reserve list for 12 months. You may be offered another Casework Administration Manager post in CPS Thames & Chiltern if a vacancy comes up during this period. We may also approach candidates on the waiting list to fill other roles that require similar knowledge and experience.
