4133 - Head of Road Safety Delivery, Strategic Road Network

The Strategic Road Network (SRN) is one of Wales’ most significant public infrastructure assets, valued at approximately £21 billion. Although it represents around 5 per cent of the total road length in Wales, it carries approximately one third of all traffic and is critical to economic growth, community connectivity, access to essential services and the delivery of Welsh Government transport, climate and wellbeing objectives. Keeping the network safe is fundamental to everything we do.

As Head of Road Safety Delivery, you will provide strategic leadership for road safety across the Welsh Government's Strategic Road Network, helping to translate policy into practical improvements that make a real difference to people's lives.

This is a varied and influential role, acting as a key link between policy and delivery. Building strong relationships, working collaboratively and influencing others will be central to ensuring road safety interventions are evidence-led, effectively delivered and aligned with Welsh Government priorities.

You will lead the road safety function within the Strategic Road Network Division, providing oversight of programmes, risk management and assurance activities that support the delivery of the Safe System approach. You will also play an integral role in building strong partnerships and fostering collaboration to improve outcomes.

The role offers opportunities to contribute to advice for Ministers and senior officials on road safety matters, helping to shape decisions that influence road safety policy and delivery across Wales.

Professional Requirements

Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional qualification in road safety, transport, engineering or a related field. Qualifications to be checked at onboarding stage
