Job summary

WFD works with UK political parties to deliver programmes that support political parties and democratic institutions internationally, drawing on the experience and expertise of UK political parties and their networks. WFD’s political party programmes contribute to WFD’s wider objectives of supporting more inclusive, accountable and responsive political systems.

What they’re looking for

  • The role requires strong programme administration and organisational skills alongside the ability to work confidently with external political stakeholders
  • At least three years’ relevant experience providing programme administration, logistical and financial support.
  • Previous experience, whether paid or voluntary, of working within or closely with a political party, with a practical understanding of political party structures, internal stakeholders and ways of working.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to coordinate multiple activities, deadlines and stakeholders.
  • Experience organising and coordinating meetings, events and delegations involving a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of planning and undertaking international travel for work, including independently, with an understanding of appropriate security, safeguarding and risk-management considerations.
  • Experience of programme financial administration, including monitoring expenditure, processing financial documentation and working with budgets and financial reporting processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence and judgement to engage professionally with politicians, political party officials and other external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and take responsibility for following through on agreed actions with limited supervision.

Job description

The Senior Programme Officer (SPO), Political Party Programmes will support the effective implementation and administration of WFD’s UK political party portfolio, working across programmes delivered in partnership with the Labour Party, Conservative Party, Liberal Democrats, Green Party and other UK political parties.

Working under the guidance of the Head of Practice – Political Parties and Movements, the SPO will provide programme, administrative, logistical and financial support across the portfolio. They will have responsibility for coordinating the day-to-day implementation of the Green Party project and WFD’s cross-party project, while also providing support to programmes implemented with other UK political parties.

The Senior Programme Officer will engage frequently with UK political party officials, WFD country and regional teams, international partners, consultants and other stakeholders; contribute to programme design and written products; and, where required, travel independently to support programme activities.
