Renewable Energy Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to help identify, develop and deliver renewable energy projects across the Mining Remediation Authority’s unique operational estate. As a Renewable Energy Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the organisation’s net zero ambitions by turning renewable energy opportunities into practical, deliverable projects that provide real environmental benefits.

The role combines technical expertise, commercial awareness and project development. You will spend time visiting Mine Water Treatment Scheme sites to understand how they operate, identify opportunities and constraints, and develop renewable energy solutions. Using this knowledge, you will produce and review solar PV designs, assess feasibility, evaluate options such as battery storage and help shape investment decisions by balancing technical performance with cost, risk, deliverability and wider environmental benefits.

This is more than a design role. You will support projects through development, delivery and operation, helping to influence decisions and contribute to the growth of the Authority’s renewable energy portfolio. As your experience develops, you will prepare business cases and present recommendations to support senior decision-making.

While the immediate focus is on solar PV, the role also offers the opportunity to contribute to emerging technologies including battery storage, wind and hydro projects. It is ideally suited to someone who enjoys combining engineering expertise, site-based problem solving, commercial thinking and project development. This is a rare opportunity to influence renewable energy projects from concept through to operation while helping shape an ambitious and growing renewable energy programme.

• Identify and develop renewable energy opportunities across the Authority’s estate.
• Visit Mine Water Treatment Scheme sites to assess operations, opportunities and constraints.
• Produce and review ground-mounted solar PV designs.
• Assess the technical, financial and operational feasibility of projects.
• Evaluate factors including grid capacity, planning requirements, battery storage and project costs.
• Develop practical solutions to site constraints.
• Support investment decisions by assessing performance, cost, risk, deliverability and environmental benefits.
• Develop business cases and present recommendations to support senior decisions.
• Support the construction, operation and optimisation of renewable energy projects.
• Work with contractors and service providers and review asset performance.
• Contribute to future battery storage, wind and hydro opportunities.
