Job summary

Do you want to lead projects that deliver real environmental change?

The Mining Remediation Authority delivers innovative water treatment and environmental remediation projects that are transforming rivers, streams and landscapes affected by historic coal and metal mining.

As a Project Manager within our Water and Abandoned Metal Mines programme, you will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of projects. These will range from developing new mine water treatment schemes to refurbishing and improving existing operational assets.

You will lead projects from concept through design and construction to successful completion, working alongside technical experts, scientists and engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges. You will manage budgets, programmes, risks and project governance, as well as consultants, contractors and delivery partners.

The role involves building strong relationships with regulators, landowners, local communities and other stakeholders. You will secure the consents, permissions and approvals required to deliver projects and develop business cases and investment proposals to support decision-making and secure funding.

No two projects are the same. You will have the opportunity to work on schemes across England, Wales and Scotland that contribute to cleaner waterways, healthier ecosystems and a more sustainable future.

You will join a friendly and supportive team delivering nationally significant environmental projects that combine engineering innovation, environmental improvement and public benefit.

What they’re looking for

  • You will bring:
  • Proven experience of managing projects from planning through to delivery.
  • Strong budget, programme and risk management expertise.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience of managing consultants and contractors.
  • The ability to collaborate across teams and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates with experience of:
  • Water treatment, wastewater, environmental or civil engineering projects.
  • Developing solutions for environmental remediation programmes.
  • Working in environmentally sensitive locations or at sites with heritage considerations.
  • Managing Design and Build contracts, particularly under NEC forms of contract.
  • Refurbishing, upgrading or enhancing existing operational assets.
  • Navigating complex stakeholder environments involving regulators, communities and landowners.
