Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship Assessor

Are you an experienced engineering professional with a background in metal fabrication, manufacturing, welding or aircraft structures looking for a new and rewarding challenge?

The Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) is seeking an enthusiastic Advance Manufacturing & Repair (AM&R) Assessor to support and assess apprentices undertaking the Level 3 Metal Fabricator Apprenticeship within the Royal Air Force.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your industry knowledge and experience to help develop the next generation of highly skilled engineering technicians. Working with apprentices and workplace supervisors across the UK, you will support learners as they develop the technical skills, knowledge and behaviours required to succeed in a Defence engineering environment.

Whether you already have instructional or assessment experience, or are an experienced engineering professional looking to move into training and development, full support and training can be provided.

This role is remote role working from home, MOD Lyneham, RAF Cosford and RAF Main Operating Bases (MOB) across the UK. Travel and nights away will be required dependant on caseload.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

As an AM&R Assessor, you will:

• Conduct workplace reviews and assessment visits at RAF Stations throughout the UK.
• Support apprentices throughout their learning journey.
• Assess occupational competence against apprenticeship requirements.
• Monitor learner progress and support timely achievement.
• Maintain accurate learner and assessment records.
• Develop positive relationships with apprentices, supervisors and stakeholders.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and professional guidance.
• Support apprentice welfare and wellbeing.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities across apprenticeship delivery.

Travel and occasional overnight stays will be required depending on caseload.

Completion of an engineering apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training programme.

Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.

Technical Skills:

• If sifted to interview candidates will sit an engineering trade multiple-choice examination paper from the appropriate TG5 electrical engineering syllabus and will deliver a short presentation on an electrical subject.
• Deliver a 15–20-minute presentation as a lesson on a Metal Fabrication engineering subject which will be stipulated if invited for interview.
