Job summary

As Head of Project Delivery, you will lead one of the Mining Remediation Authority’s largest capital investment programmes, taking ownership of a £20m to £30m annual portfolio of nationally significant environmental projects. The role is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of projects that improve water quality, protect communities and create lasting environmental benefits across the UK.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an accomplished programme leader who can combine strong delivery expertise with the ability to shape future direction. Leading an established and highly capable team of project and programme professionals, you will provide the leadership, governance and oversight needed to deliver a diverse and complex portfolio safely and effectively. You will work closely with senior colleagues across Operations, Technical, Engineering, Planning and Environmental teams to drive delivery, strengthen organisational relationships and support long-term programme development.

The role offers significant influence across the organisation, including responsibility for programme performance, governance, risk, budgets and stakeholder relationships. You will help shape future delivery capability, build a sustainable pipeline of work and contribute to the leadership and future direction of the Environment Directorate.

This opportunity will suit candidates with experience of leading complex capital programmes or portfolios in environments such as infrastructure, water, utilities, highways, environmental delivery, construction or other large-scale programme settings. Mining experience is not essential. What matters is the ability to lead people, shape strategy and deliver major programmes successfully while creating positive outcomes for communities and the environment.

  • Proven track record of leading complex capital programmes or portfolios at scale.
  • Experience of building, leading and developing high-performing delivery teams.

  • Strong commercial judgement and confidence operating within governance and risk frameworks.
  • Experience overseeing significant budgets, delivery partners and supply chains.
  • Ability to translate strategic ambitions into a deliverable programme that achieves measurable outcomes.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to set direction, build organisational confidence and bring people together around complex priorities.
  • Experience of delivering major programmes within complex programme environments such as infrastructure, water, utilities, highways, environmental delivery, construction or similar sectors.
  • Ability to maintain a clear focus on outcomes while leading large-scale delivery programmes successfully.
