Job summary
The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is responsible for improving building safety and ensuring people are safe and feel safe in their homes.This role is for a Governance & Support Team Leader (HEO) within the Professional Standards Unit (PSU), which regulates the building control profession, maintaining professional standards and public confidence in the regulatory framework.
The Professional Standards Unit (PSU) provides ongoing oversight of building control bodies(Registered Building Control Approvers and Local Authorities) and Registered Building Inspectors through a range of regulatory activities.
This includes monitoring regulatory data, carrying out inspection programmes, checking compliance with regulatory requirements and investigating concerns about building control professionals and bodies. The Unit also supports disciplinary and sanctions processes, governance, stakeholder engagement and Appeals & Determinations casework.
The Governance & Support Team Leader will provide administrative and operational support across the Unit. The role involves maintaining accurate systems and records, coordinating business activities, managing correspondence, supporting meetings and ensuring that colleagues and senior leaders have timely and accurate information.
A key part of the role will be supporting governance, risk and quality assurance (GRQA) processes, as well as monitoring and coordinating correspondence and Appeals & Determinations casework. The postholder will help ensure that work is organised effectively, procedures are followed and the Unit continues to deliver a high-quality service.
Overall, this is an important role that contributes to the effective regulation of the building control profession. It provides an opportunity to improve systems and processes, support good governance and help maintain professional standards and public confidence in the building safety regulatory framework.
Due to the nature of the work, the role is full-time only, although condensed hours may be considered.

- Effective communication and analytical skills, with the ability to collate, interpret and present information clearly in reports, briefings and updates.
- Collaborative and proactive team member, confident in supporting meetings, coordinating logistics, resolving queries, and driving continuous improvement in processes and service delivery.
- Hybrid Working

- There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 60% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

- Travel Requirements
- This role will support the planning, coordination and delivery of meetings, hearings, and other regulatory activities on behalf of the Building Safety Regulator. Some of these meetings and hearings are conducted in person and may take place at locations across the UK. As a result, the successful candidate will be required to undertake occasional travel, including overnight stays where necessary, to support business needs. Travel and subsistence will be provided in accordance with BSR policy.

Job description
The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) became an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) on 1st June 2026.
The BSR is a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees are Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.
All employees will have access to:

Existing Civil Servants transferring into BSR will have their continuity of Service recognised for the purposes of sick pay and annual leave entitlement. However, if they later move to another Civil Service department, continuity of service may not automatically be recognised by the receiving department.
This would be subject to that department’s own policies and arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate tracking systems for submissions, commissions, appeals and priority documents, ensuring all deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Manage records and documentation, maintaining clear, consistent logs of decisions, correspondence and team activity, including responsibility for document management and SharePoint administration.
- Support end-to-end correspondence processes, including logging, monitoring progress, escalating urgent items (such as Parliamentary Questions), and ensuring timely, accurate responses.
- Identify and implement process improvements, enhancing administrative systems, efficiency and continuous improvement across the team.
- Coordinate meetings and events, preparing agendas, taking accurate notes, managing logistics, and tracking follow-up actions.
- Act as a first point of contact for queries, providing clear advice, signposting colleagues appropriately, monitoring team in boxes and trackers, and escalating risks or delays where necessary.
- Act in a team leader capacity where required, providing oversight, support and direction on day-to-day operational activities.

Selection process

Test Information

Sift Information
The sift will take place during the week commencing Monday 07th of September when you will be assessed on your Personal Statement and Lead Behaviour Statement on 'Working Together'.
IMPORTANT: Please note in the event of a high number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted on your Personal Statement. If you meet the benchmark for the Personal Statement, you will be progressed to a full sift in which the Lead Behaviour Statement will also be scored. If you do not meet the standard for the Personal Statement, you will not receive a score for your Lead Behaviour Statement.
Interview Information
Interviews will take place during week commencing Monday 21st of September when you will be assessed against the behaviours detailed in the job advert, as well as your experience.
