Environmental Impact Assessor

The MOD is responsible for ensuring that it understands and demonstrates legal compliance regarding the environmental impact of the operations it conducts. Due to the broad nature of operations, these can involve explosive, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) or other hazardous materials. Decisions on whether and how these operations proceed depend on understanding the potential environmental impact of these materials.

Working as a senior member of a specialist team, you will lead the delivery of environmental impact assessments and scientific advice that inform decision-making at the highest levels of Defence and Government. You will provide technical leadership across environmental assessment activities, ensuring that operational objectives are achieved whilst environmental risks and wider consequences are appropriately understood and managed.

You will act as a recognised environmental specialist, providing technical oversight and assurance of assessment outputs, developing capability and supporting the professional development of colleagues. You will work closely with customers, stakeholders and multidisciplinary experts to ensure the Environmental Impact capability remains effective and responsive to current and future operational requirements.

Your responsibilities will include leading the delivery of environmental impact assessments that enable informed Defence operational and strategic decision making as well as giving authoritative scientific advice on the environmental consequences and risks associated with hazardous, explosive and CBRN material release scenarios.

Essential:

• Degree in environmental science, Ecology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences or another relevant scientific discipline.

Your interview will consist of behavioural and technical competency-based questions. You will also be required to deliver a 10-minute presentation. Further details for the presentation will be provided to candidates invited to interview.
