Deputy Head of National Approved Premises Team (Ref: 21611)

The Deputy Head of the National Approved Premises Team is a key national leadership role, providing direct support to the Head of NAPT and ensuring the effective delivery, performance and continual improvement of Approved Premises across England and Wales.

As the principal deputy to the Head of NAPT, the postholder will exercise delegated authority, lead national priorities and projects, provide strategic and operational leadership, and represent Approved Premises at senior regional and national forums. The role combines strategic oversight with a strong understanding of operational delivery, ensuring national policy, performance expectations and improvement initiatives are translated into effective practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Head of NAPT, assuming leadership responsibility and decision-making authority in their absence.
• Support the development and delivery of the national Approved Premises strategy, priorities and business objectives.
• Lead and deliver key national projects, transformation programmes and service improvement initiatives on behalf of the Head of NAPT.
• Maintain oversight of national performance, quality, public protection outcomes and operational risks across the Approved Premises estate.
• Provide challenge, support and assurance to regional leaders to drive consistency, compliance and continuous improvement.
• Represent NAPT at senior internal and external meetings, influencing policy, practice and service development.
• Lead responses to emerging operational issues, significant incidents and areas of concern requiring national oversight.
• Support the development and implementation of national policy, guidance and operational standards.
• Build effective relationships with senior stakeholders across HMPPS, MoJ and partner agencies.
• Promote an inclusive, high-performing culture focused on public protection, service excellence and staff development.
